Traveling -- the big plane ride

Picture
As we wait in JFK -- We found the Delta Sky Club - I am thankful that Rick checked into such things.  Really makes traveling a bit more enjoyable.

I know that there are many people who travel abroad frequently. And I am sure that the next big trip won't be this special - but this is huge for someone like me who has never really been anywhere, and to go to Finland first!

We spent the day in the city - with my Cousin Nancy and her daughter Nina.  on 9th and about 51st we found this little restaurant named Nizza.  The food was wonderful - and the wait staff was very attentive.  Later we found a yogurt shop called tutti frutti.
It was good Seeing Nancy - she always brings a smile.  This was the first time that Nancy got to meet Kelsey which was a bonus too.

We ended our adventure to the Statue of Liberty at Harold's - if you are looking for something light to eat for dinner - this is the wrong place for you.  One sandwich can feed a small village.  I just had a little slice of a Chicken Cordon Blu Sandwich - and it was more than enough.

As we sat a restin in the shade - two park service rangers came up to chat - This is Dwane and Sam

Picture

Sam was a hoot to talk to - and he went even further - gave us a one on one tour of the museum.  Shared things with us that we would not have known otherwise.  What a treat!

for instance - did you know that the three elements of the united states displayed in the Statue of Liberty are displayed in her torch.  Corn - Tobacco - and the Indian arrowhead

Lisa, Gary and the kids left us downtown - only cause they had already done the Empire State Building.  Walking for what seemed an eternity - and it was really rather warm - well not so much warm but muggy [yuck] -- we stumbled upon some people in Orange shirts - selling the NY SkyRide
It was actually very educational, and interesting.  Not to mention it got us out of the muggy - and inside.  Yay!  I am glad we chose to do it.

The deck was rather crowded - I would have preferred not quite so many peoples -- but then, it is a holiday, it is in NYC and ... it is the Empire State Building.
The view was magnificent.  Every where on the deck - no matter where you look - the view was beautiful.

I am glad we went -

Quick! Cover your eyes Kelsey -- it's a naked man ...

Picture

Well, almost naked ...  he is pretty daring - or perhaps just thrives on the attention.  Some people will do anything to get discovered

I always thought that Rockefeller Center was much larger.  It is interesting how these landmarks are actually quite small - however the media and the hype, make them larger than life.

We checked out the Lego version of the Empire State Building - of course it would not be complete without King Kong.  We will see the real building later on today.

... and it would never be complete without playing dress up with the M&M World -- A green Lady Liberty :)

Some angels are ment to be with us for a life time.  Some are ment to be with us only for a short time.  Jane you found me 20 years ago.  You nurtured me, mothered me, gave me strength and courage to face some of the most challenging of things.  You and Norm were surrogate Grandparents to my children.  You watched the birth of my daughter Kelsey, and helped her brother Brandon be the best brother ever.

You left us as Kelsey and I traveled from Portland to New York City.  We were flying too -- I felt you come to say goodbye.  I know you are no longer in pain.  I know you are at peace and with Norm once again.  You will always be in my heart and soul -- I love you so much.
