In 1910–1986, the Kangasala Rest Home was a boarding house that became well-known as a place where many famous Finnish artists spent their holidays and worked. Now restored, the rest home displays its diverse and original objects, accompanied with interesting stories.

The rest home is not only a tourist destination; its premises are also hired out for functions and conferences. The sauna building has a spacious sauna, a room with a fireplace, and a kitchen.

I thought this would be a grand place to visit.  Pretty much cause it was quaint looking and it also had a shop full of local artist offerings.  I was a bit disappointed when it said on a sign that a tour of the house was available upon reservation, but Satu mentioned that we were from the States and the caretakers were more than happy to show us around.  yay!

I really did not get a grasp of what our guide was sharing with us about some of the residents that had stayed there - but had a wonderful experience just looking at all the memorabilia and feeling the energy of the house.
